Supporting refugees who seek to make Australia their home.
Refugee Liaison
Winchelsea Rural Support Group plans to invite refugees from the Greater Geelong and South West region for bushwalks, picnics and other activities in the future (Covid Normal).
Letter writing
Winchelsea RSG will send letters to the Prime Minister and other relevant ministers using templates from other groups. We aim to do this on a monthly basis.
Advocacy
Working to achieve a more humane, just and compassionate approach to the plight of asylum seekers is a key aim of Winchelsea RSG. As a new group, we will be involved in campaigns, protests and actions when possible to work towards policy change.
Food Bank
We plan to support the Food Bank run by the Wesley Asylum Seeker Welcome Place in Geelong with a delivery of groceries. The Food Bank was established to assist people on bridging visas who have had their income support taken away while they are re-applying for their visas, or others on Safe Haven Enterprise or Temporary Protection Visas who do not have ongoing work or access to income support.
Events and fundraising
Winchelsea RSG will plan fundraising activities for the coming 12 months and will update this on this page as soon as possible.
All money raised goes towards supporting asylum seekers.
Meetings will be held according to Victorian Government covid-safe requirements. New members are always welcome.
