Winchelsea Community House is an independent non-profit Incorporated Association and an official charity registered with ACNC (Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission).
As such, funding is received from a variety of sources. Most notably, the Victorian State Government through the NHCP (Neighbourhood Houses Coordination Program) provides the salary for our Manager at 25 hours per week – but nothing else eg. cover for annual leave, operating costs, etc etc. Surf Coast Shire offer and maintain the premises together with a direct fixed financial contribution, and are very helpful where they can be. The Occasional Child Care service is paid for via fees and government subsidy, and runs at a slight loss.
The end result is that Winchelsea Community House operates on a shoestring budget and is woefully underfunded by its chief proponent the State Government in spite of a stated enthusiasm for community strengthening. High rising living costs are not being matched with increases in funding.
Working in partnership with the Winchelsea Star has led to a delicately sustainable financial situation for Winch House. But if we’re to put on activities and programs and events for community benefit without excluding those on similarly tight budgets, we need more funds.

PLEASE NOTE
Winchelsea Community House donations are NOT currently tax-deductible. We are applying for DGR status (ie. deductible gift recipient) but State law changes have made it very difficult. We hope a recent review will change that.
